The man learned that the woman was in favour of this marriage, so he hosted a banquet for relatives and friends who came to congratulate him.

   After the wedding, the husband’s home

   In the past, the Miao people in southeastern Guizhou had the custom of "following their husband's house" after a wedding. The bride returned to live in her natal house soon after she got married. Brides who belong to an arranged marriage by their parents return to live in their natal home on the day or the next day of the wedding ceremony. The period of staying in the natal family is generally six to seven years for underage early married women, and three to four years for adult women. During this period, only during busy farming and major festivals, or when the husband’s family is in a funeral, can they temporarily return to live in her husband’s house.
